Two long escalators at the Rossyln Metro station.

Two long escalators at the Rossyln Metro station.

A photograph of the escalators in the subway metro system in Washington, D.C. This photograph captured in October, 1999 was taken by Jim Epler during the fall in Washington, DC at the Rossyln, VA metro station. It is cataloged under the terms cities, architecture, transportation and urban scenes in this photography database.

The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak Tri-X 400 black & white film stock using a Pentax Asahi Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 28mm f/3.5 lens.

Photographer Comments: The escalators appear to be empty with only ghost-like wisps of people because of the long shutter speed I used when capturing this image. I used a ND filter to give me the latitude needed to produce this effect.

Additionally, Jim thought of search phrases (i.e. terms) that a person who is actively seeking pictures on the Internet related to this particular topic might employ when performing his or her exploration including the words metro station, metro stop, metro, rossyln metro, commuters, subway, Washinton DC, light, escalators, rossyln and escalator, so he included these on this details page as a service to himself and others who would like to download this royalty free photograph!
