The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak GOLD 200 color film stock using a Canon EOS Rebel v300 (Ti) camera with a Canon 17-40mm f/4 L lens stopped to f/5.6 and exposed at a speed of 1/1000th of a second.
Photographer Comments: Needless to say, I was thrilled and excited about the Chargers chances of making the Super Bowl this past year. The entire San Diego region was disappointed after they lost this game to the Patriots. Mission Valley was a great place to be that day and the stadium rocked with anticipation when I snapped this photograph.
I trekked up a fairly steep hill with my tripod, gear and folding chair almost an hour before the start of the game to set up for this picture. It was fun listening to the roar of the crowd and watching the fireworks explode as they announced LaDainian Tomlinson's name over the public address speaker. In fact, you can see still see bits of smoke rising from within the interior of the stadium.
I wasn't sure how high the jets were going to be flying, so I used my wider angle 17-40mm lens to make sure I would be able to capture them in the frame. Consequently, I had to crop after scanning the negative with my film scanner. I would have preferred to have used my 135mm zoom which would have resulted in a crisper, cleaner image.
