A view of a female jogger stopping for a rest near the National Mall in Washington, DC. The Lincoln Memorial can be seen in the distance. This photograph captured in September, 1999 was taken by Jim Epler in the summer in Washington, DC on a path near the National Mall. It is cataloged under the terms people and urban scenes in this photography database.
The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak Tri-X 400 black & white film stock using a Pentax Asahi Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 135mm f/3.5 lens.
Photographer Comments: I snapped this picture of a woman walking along the path next to the reflecting pool but was too late to capture the look on her face that prompted me to target her as a subject in the first place. I can't remember EXACTLY what the look was, but I remember it was quite humorous and would been a great "decisive moment" had I been a split second quicker. I think she saw me raise my camera and turned quickly away to avoid having her picture taken! I still like the quality and tonal range inherent to the photograph and the fact it accurately reflects the shady feel of the walking path that warm and sun-filled day. The texture of the tree on the right side of the frame pops with expression and the narrow depth of field draws focus to the stately columns of the Lincoln Memorial in the background.
Additionally, Jim thought of search phrases (i.e. terms) that a person who is actively seeking pictures on the Internet related to this particular topic might employ when performing his or her exploration including the words female, Washington DC, stop, jogger, Lincoln Memorial, United States, woman, break and mall, so he included these on this details page as a service to himself and others who would like to download this royalty free photograph! |
